TACLOBAN CITY - Super Typhoon (Haiyan) considered as the strongest typhoon in the world in this year, caused major damage in this city, home of more than 200,000 people in central Philippines

The Typhoon hit land on November 8, 2013, with winds of 260kph. It triggered giant storm surges that flooded the city and other coastal areas in the Province of Leyte, leaving a wide swath of destruction, one of its destruction you can see is the  picture of the Palo Boyscout Monument were the left leg broke.

EASTERN VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY - The Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) suspended classes and shut its campus because of this super typhoon. Due to the calamity ''Typhoon Yolanda'' enrollment for 2nd semester will resume on December 16, 2013 and classes will resume on January 15, 2014.

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), the biggest uniformed youth movement in the country, celebrates its 77th Anniversary on October 31, 2013. With 2.3 million members, the BSP is one of the world’s largest Scout organizations. The BSP is a member of World Organization of the Scout Movement and the Asia-Pacific Scout Region. The motto of Filipino scouts is: Laging Handa (Always Prepared).

Filipino scouts hold varied activities that promote brotherhood and sportsmanship such as camping, tree-planting, sportsfests, community service, awards and recognition programs, and outdoor games. The anniversary will be celebrated with a parade by Kid/Kab Scouts, Boy and Senior Scouts, Rover Scouts, and Scout Leaders in towns and cities nationwide. Assisted by local governments, Boy Scouts take over the reins of a town or city for a day as local officials, as part of character building and citizenship training.

As scouts reach higher ranks, they earn merit badges to help them choose a hobby or life work. Badges are symbols of goals to build friendship, give happiness to others, perform good deeds, and live the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. The BSP holds the annual search, now on its 24th year, for 2013 Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts, and awards the Eagle Scout Badge or Jose Rizal Scout Badge, the highest rank that a senior scout aspires for. Scouting develops young Filipinos – spiritually, morally, physically, intellectually – and mold them to be responsible, law-abiding, productive citizens. The BSP has produced leaders, not only for the Philippines, but also for World Scouting. It prepares the youth for responsible leadership, guided by scouting ideals and principles.

The BSP was established on October 31, 1936, by Commonwealth Act No. 111, signed by President Manuel L. Quezon. American businessman Joseph Emile Hamilton was BSP’s first National President from 1936 to 1942. The Philippines became an independent Scouting nation in 1938, when the Philippine Council of the Boy Scouts of America gave way to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. The Philippines first participated as an independent Scouting country at the 6th World Scout Jamboree in Moisson, France, in 1947. The 10th World Scout Jamboree, the first to be held in Asia, was held on Mt. Makiling in Los Baños, Laguna, in 1959.

We congratulate the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, headed by the Chief Scout President Benigno S. Aquino III, and National President Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, for inspiring the Filipino scouts to participate in the task of nation and community-building in our Republic of the Philippines. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!

BOHOL EARTHQUAKE

The 2013 Bohol earthquake occurred on October 15, 2013 at 8:12 a.m. (PST) in Bohol, an island province located in Central Visayas, Philippines. The magnitude of the earthquake at the epicenter was recorded at Mw 7.2, located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) SW of Sagbayan town, at a depth of 12 kilometres (7.5 mi). It affected the whole Central Visayas region, particularly Bohol and Cebu. The quake was felt in the whole Visayas area and as far as Masbate island in the north and Cotabato provinces in southern Mindanao.
According to recent official reports by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 222 were reported dead, 8 were missing, and 976 people were injured. In all, nearly 69,000 structures were damaged or destroyed.
It was the deadliest earthquake in the Philippines in 23 years. The energy of the quake released was equivalent to 32 Hiroshima bombs. Previously, Bohol was also hit by an earthquake on February 8, 1990 that damaged several buildings and caused atsunami. 

A scout is helpful. We must help with all our hearts to our fellow people there. Outfit 435 is planning to help by simply making a donation boxes for Bohol. 

We hope that they're now safe.

A blessed day welcome to all Scouts and friends who's reading this article and Happy Scouting Month!

Early in the morning, October 1, 2013, The scouts from the Outfit 435 participated the Launching and Opening Of Scouting Month with the theme: ''Scouting, Education for Life''.

Because of the Bad Weather, the scout leaders said that we will not continue to participate the opening of the Scouting Month but then, even though, Scout Kevin Pulma said to us that ''we will continue'', and the other scouts agreed and wanted to join this event so we went to Rizal Plaza and we're thankful that we're able to join the parade surprisingly timing.

Hope that we will participate again in the next events and activities. Once again, Happy scouting Month!

I LOVE TACLOBAN FUNWALK

A blessed day welcome to all Scouts and friends who's reading this article scattered all around the world. Early in the morning, September 15, 2013, The scouts from the Outfit 435 participated The 2nd I LOVE TACLOBAN FUN WALK.

This funwalk is not only a walk that like ''okay we're just walking''. This is a funwalk can help to save our nature, like the plastic bottles, these plastic bottles were the registration for the funwalk and if sold, the fund will be use to buy school supplies for the poor.

We're the only senior scouts who participated this event. We're greatly thankful for the weather, and the support of our brothers and sisters in the NSTP-CWTS EVSU.

Hope that we will participate again in the next simple activities of the Local Government of Tacloban.

"SEMAPHORE"

Semaphore Flags is the telegraphy system conveying information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags, rods, disks, paddles, or occasionally bare or gloved hands. Information is encoded by the position of the flags; it is read when the flag is in a fixed position. Semaphores were adopted and widely used (with hand-held flags replacing the mechanical arms of shutter semaphores) in the maritime world in the 19th century. It is still used during underway replenishment at sea and is acceptable for emergency communication in daylight or, using lighted wands instead of flags, at night.

The current flag semaphore system uses two short poles with square flags, which a signalman holds in different positions to signal letters of the alphabet and numbers. The signalman holds one pole in each hand, and extends each arm in one of eight possible directions. Except for in the rest position, the flags do not overlap. The flags are colored differently based on whether the signals are sent by sea or by land. At sea, the flags are colored red and yellow (the Oscar flag), while on land, they are white and blue (the Papa flag). Flags are not required; their purpose is to make the characters more obvious.

Each and every one of us has a dream to fulfill, some are willing to be a doctor while some are willing to be an engineer, but i'm very sure that there is some kids willing to become an Eagle Scout.

Scouting is now part of my life, and i am part of those kids who wants to be an Eagle Scout. To become an Eagle Scout there is only one word to motivate us and that word is "Believe", cause without believing your dreams will never come true.

Scouting was never been easy to me, but being part of something that you really love will make it more easier. I will do everything just to become an Eagle Scout, i will follow and obey the Scout Oath & Law, i will do righteous things to other people, and i will cherish my love for my Country and to God.

"SCOUTS WARM WELCOME"

In an unexpected day last August 30, 2013, we were told to welcome our visitors in the EVSU Executive House right across the campus. Scout Masters came. And we, of course welcomed them.

In our little way, while waiting for them, we practiced simple drills and even goofed off and had some little fun. When they arrived, we scrammed and formed. It was a bit funny, I gotta admit, but it was a big opportunity for us to meet and welcome them.

Thank God that we're guided. A job well done Scouts! Keep it up!

"2ND ONE VISAYAS JAMBOREE IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL"

If They Smile, We Smile.

Last year, the Second One Visayas Jamboree didn't fail on bringing us a new experience with lots of learning in both skills and values. Strengthening friendship from all ranks, ages, gender and ethnicity and dissolving boundaries that causes avoidable misunderstandings.

The so called "Alay Boys" was born by the form of the former Outdoorsman Scout and also the former SCL Scouter Joel Hedrick Ty. The group was built so that the scouts from Tacloban City can show their values to other fellow scouts.

The scouting activities taught us things that must be applied through out our lives and must be passed down through generations.

Imagine a world of peace and unity, if you had a picture in your mind then that's the world scouting is aiming for - Peace and unity. Scouting is not all about being a good scout but a scout better than better which is the best scout.

Good morning Scouts and to everyone who's currently reading this article. 

When I joined scouting, I expected that they would take it seriously, because they wanted to be called our outfit as "Pugad ng Lawin" again. But then, I was wrong. You should enjoy what you're doing because you start a new start in your new school.

Being part of scouting is a really big opportunity for me, it teaches us on how to live in a simple life without those technologies. So, we, as the Senior Scouts of outfit 435, we should start what we have started and finish what we have started and together, we reach our goals. God bless everyone!

''EAGLES RISING AGAIN''

Good day everyone, I wish to convey my greetings to the latest advance scouts of the Secondary Laboratory School, Outfit 435 who finished the 1st EVSU-SLS Advancement Camp, last August 16-17, 2013 at the EVSU Grounds. 

Special thanks also to the scouts counselor who served as support staff during the camp. Rest assured that we, your teachers would continue to give fun filled, values oriented activities needed as requirement for your advancement ranks.

 It is our hope that before the year end we will see another batch of Eagle Scouts flying from the SLS Department. 

Do your best and make a difference in the lives of all EVSU-SLS. For Gods honor and Glory! Happy scouting and see you in the next scouting Jamborette.

"THE 1ST EVSU-SLS ADVANCEMENT CAMP FOR SENIOR SCOUTS""

New scouts, new people to help the outfit and new friends! The 1st EVSU Advancement Camp for Senior Scouts was tiring but awesome even though it was held for only one and a half day.

  

There were many activities that were taught to the scouts,  like first aid, path finding, ecology, pioneering and team building. We counselors were also learning, confidence in teaching, learning other activities and many more.

This advancement camp was not only an advancement camp. It practices and teaches the members to be leaders so that if our respected SCL will leave us we have responsibilities to handle the outfit and sooner the scouts that is highly trained will be a leader someday.

''Loving their flags.''

  This Advancement Camp was very helpful not only for our outfit but for our personality. It taught us how to be responsible and how ''responsible'' is being explained that must be applied through out our lives and must be passed down through generations. 

We are thankful that our Advisor Sct. Marlon Lora and Sct. Bryan Gervacio planned to have this camp and we are proud because we are one of the very first scouts who joined this EVSU-SLS Advancment Camp for senior scouts.
